Before his rise to fame, Stray Kids’ Hyunjin almost got recruited into cult During his trainee days, he was unknowingly drawn into a cult’s recruitment tactics—and his escape story is something straight out of a thriller.

Check out Stray Kids new album “DominATE” and a review of it over here.

An Innocent Walk Turns Into Something Sinister

Hyunjin recalled that he was strolling near Konkuk University when a stranger persistently tried to get his attention. Initially, he brushed it off, assuming they were just another street recruiter. But the person didn’t let him go.

“You have bad energy on your face,” the stranger told him. “Are you going through a tough time?”

At that time, Hyunjin was struggling with the pressures of being a trainee, often feeling overwhelmed by criticism and self-doubt. Somehow, the stranger’s words resonated with him, making him pause. That moment of hesitation led him down a path he never expected.

A Webtoon-Like Cult Ritual

Intrigued and slightly convinced by the person’s words, Hyunjin followed them to an unfamiliar white building—something straight out of a mystery drama or webtoon.

Once inside, things got even stranger. He was asked to change into a different set of clothes. As soon as he stepped into the main hall, where a large statue stood at the center, a group of people kneeled before him. Then, they all stood up in unison and welcomed him—a move that sent shivers down his spine.

That’s when the true purpose of this bizarre gathering became clear.

The Price of “Repaying the God”

The cult members soon started asking for money, claiming it was necessary to “repay the god” for his newfound enlightenment. But there was one more unsettling rule—they told him he couldn’t tell his parents about what happened for 100 to 300 days because doing so would “invalidate his contribution.”

That’s when the reality of the situation hit Hyunjin. He had walked straight into a cult’s trap.

A Narrow Escape

Looking back, Hyunjin admitted that the experience was terrifying and that he could have been in serious danger. His story is a chilling reminder of how vulnerable young trainees can be, especially when they’re under pressure.

Luckily, he got out safely, but not everyone might be as fortunate. His story serves as a warning—always trust your instincts and never follow strangers into unfamiliar places, no matter how convincing they sound.
