Disney’s Snow White Tanks on IMDb—Is It Really That Bad?

Disney’s live-action Snow White remake has been one of the studio’s most controversial films in years, and its IMDb score proves it. While the movie holds a 71% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, things look way worse over on IMDb, where it has plummeted to a brutal 2.2/10—one of the lowest ratings on the platform.

A Review-Bombing Disaster?

With over 39,000 ratings logged, a staggering 78% of them are 1-star reviews. To put that into perspective, Dragonball Evolution—often considered one of the worst movies ever—only has 46% of its ratings in the lowest category. Even Son of the Mask, another infamous flop, sits at around 45%.

But the real question is: Are people genuinely hating this film, or is it just another case of online review-bombing? IMDb’s rating system allows anonymous click-button reviews, making it hard to tell if these numbers reflect real audience opinions or just a coordinated effort to tank the movie. Unlike Rotten Tomatoes, which separates verified and unverified reviews, IMDb doesn’t have any such filter in place.

The Snow White Controversies

From day one, Snow White was a lightning rod for backlash. Rachel Zegler’s casting sparked racist outrage, and the use of CGI dwarfs instead of real actors fueled even more criticism. On top of that, both Zegler and co-star Gal Gadot faced scrutiny over their comments on the Israel-Gaza conflict, adding even more fuel to the fire.

Despite all this, the movie managed to pull in $43 million on opening weekend, making it the second-highest debut of the year so far. But with a massive budget, it’s still not looking great financially.

Disney’s Live-Action Problem

Snow White isn’t the only Disney remake struggling to make waves. The studio has been seeing diminishing returns on its live-action reboots, especially those based on older animated classics. While The Lion King prequel Mufasa managed to recover after a slow start, it’s unclear if Snow White can pull off the same trick.

The real test? Disney’s next big remake: Lilo & Stitch, which hits theaters later this year. Will it break the trend, or will it be another divisive flop?
